No more „Happy Hour“ in Catalonia, Spain

Dienstag 17. November 2009 von htm

The Catalan government has outlawed „happy hour“ and other special offers that entice Catalans and tourists in the Costa Brava and Barcelona. The aim of the prohibition is to curb youth alcohol consumption. It is one of many preventive health measures outlined in a new law which also makes provisions for government subsidies to help people quit smoking. According to Joan Colom, Director of the Program on Substance Abuse of the Catalonian Department of Health, the regulation has been in place since 1985. “But it was never possible to enforce it due to misinterpretation of the wording,” she said.
