Laut einer Umfrage des Meinungsforschungsinstituts Aris für den Hightech-Branchenverband Bitkom befürworten 37 Prozent der Bundesbürger so genannte „Alcolocks“ für Fahrer, die bereits mit Alkohol am Steuer erwischt wurden. Jeder zweite Deutsche (49 Prozent) würde sogar noch weiter gehen und ist für einen grundsätzlichen Alkoholtest für alle Autofahrer vor jedem Fahrtantritt. Die Regierung hält an der 0,5-Promille-Grenze fest, doch zwei von drei Deutschen sind für ein striktes Alkoholverbot für Autofahrer. Würde das so viel bringen?
Eine ganze Reihe von Gruppen unterstützt die Forderung nach einer schärferen Promille-Regelung. Dazu zählen der Automobil Club Europa (ACE), die Verkehrswacht und die Gewerkschaft der Polizei (GdP). Allerdings sollten sogenannte Alkolocks nicht verpflichtend für alle Autofahrer eingeführt werden, sagte eine Sprecherin des Verkehrsministeriums am Mittwoch in Berlin. Für bereits wegen Alkohol am Steuer aufgefallene Verkehrsteilnehmer sei eine freiwillige Lösung jedoch sinnvoll. Auch der TÜV unterstützt entsprechende Überlegungen aus den Koalitionsfraktionen von Union und FDP. In anderen EU-Ländern laufen bereits Versuche. It may have been the most important public hearing on alcopops to date, and yet two major producers of these dangerous products couldn’t be bothered to show up.
The New York Senate Standing Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse held a public hearing on April 12 to discuss the need to restrict youth access to alcopops: sweet, fruit-flavored alcohol drinks, often with alcohol levels as high as 12%. Alcopops producers directly market them to underage drinkers, and cost hundreds of lives and billions of dollars of alcohol-related harm annually.
Setting an example for all states, New York State has conducted studies that revealed the startling availability of alcopops to teens. Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), chair of the Committee, recently introduced Senate Bill 4221 to address the problem by restricting the sale of flavored malt beverages to liquor stores. Patients with alcohol use disorders who develop an infection while in the hospital are more likely to die from the infection, than patients without an alcohol disorder, a new study finds. These patients are also more likely to stay longer in the hospital and have higher costs.
