Kommentar: Zugegeben, die Alkohollobby hat in den letzten Tagen massiv einstecken müssen. Dass aber bereits zum ziemlich letzten Mittel einer Gegenoffensive gegriffen werden muss, wenn die Argumente ausgehen, überrascht doch etwas: Die Menschen, die möglichst verantwortungsbewusst und gesund leben, der Lächerlichkeit preiszugeben. Ich hoffe sehr, Jean-Martin Büttner wurde zu diesem Artikel gezwungen. Er, der sich intensiv mit dem Raucherproblem befasste und sich gegen das Verleger-Diktat wehrte. Der Artikel ist weit unter seinem Niveau. Von Humor keine Spur. Die Behandlung des Alkoholproblems ist übrigens in der Schweiz, wie oft auch anderswo, ein Trauerspiel. Und wenn dabei Humor vorkommt, dann der: Humor ist, wenn man trotzdem lacht.

In a recent review, the CDC Task Force on Community Preventive Services concluded that privatizing alcohol sales is harmful to public health. The growing financial cost of drug and alcohol abuse puts tremendous pressure on every social sector. The present report, part of a larger Family Funding Study project, is final in the series that examined the cost of drug and alcohol abuse to West Virginia’s criminal justice, healthcare, education, welfare, and workforce systems. Ample survey research has shown that alcohol portrayals in movies affect the development of alcohol consumption in youth. Hence, there is preliminary evidence that alcohol portrayals in movies also directly influence viewers’ drinking of alcohol while watching movies. One process that might account for these direct effects is imitation. The present study therefore examined whether young people imitate actors sipping alcohol on screen. … We observed sipping behaviours of 79 young adults (ages 18–25) watching a 60-min movie clip, ‘What Happens in Vegas’, in a semi-naturalistic home setting. …
The findings showed that participants were more likely to sip in accordance with the actors’ sipping than without such a cue. Further, we found that men were more likely to imitate actors’ sipping than females and that participants tended to respond to actors’ sipping at the beginning of the movie rather than at the end.
Exposure to actors sipping alcohol in a movie seems to have an immediate impact on the drinking behaviour of viewers, via the mechanism of imitation. (Source: Alcohol Reports, 04/21/11)

Aims: To analyse the effects of age, period and cohort (APC) on light and binge drinking in the general population of Finland over the past 40 years. …Conclusions: Light drinking has increased over time for each cohort, with no substantial differences between cohort profiles. The Texas Senate this week passed a bill that would give immunity to underage drinkers who are seeking medical help in an emergency. The bill’s sponsor said it is aimed at minors who are afraid to seek help because they do not want to be charged with underage drinking.
The Houston Chronicle reports that the bill would give immunity from minor-in-possession and consumption of alcohol charges. The measure would require the minor to be the first person seeking medical assistance and to stay with the incapacitated person until help arrives. … (Source: Join Together, 04/21/11)

Die Bahn plant ein striktes Alkohol-Verbot im Hauptbahnhof Hannover. Das Unternehmen will dazu von seinem Hausrecht Gebrauch machen und Alkohol-Trinker des Gebäudes verweisen. Damit wäre Hannover bundesweit die erste Stadt, in der eine solche Regelung greifen würde. Angeregt hatte das Verbot die Bundespolizei. Gerade am Wochenende gebe es regelmäßig Probleme mit betrunkenen Jugendlichen, so ein Behörden-Sprecher. Wer schon einmal abends am Hauptbahnhof in Hannover war, kennt das Bild: Jugendliche und auch Erwachsene, die mit der Bierflasche in der Hand durch die Ladenstraße laufen. Bisher hat sich die Gesellschaft weitgehend um die Schäden nicht gekümmert. Der Profit der Industrie durfte nicht in Frage gestellt werden. Alle, egal wie viel wir Alkohol konsumieren, zahlen jährlich ungefragt eine beträchtliche Summe an diese alkoholbedingten Sozialkosten.

Darüber sind sicher alle froh. Aber so lange viele tausend Entzüge pro Jahr zu verzeichnen sind, kann man nicht zufrieden die Hände in den Schoss legen, sondern muss weiter jede mögliche Massnahme ergreifen, den Alkohol aus dem Verkehr zu ziehen. Gegenwärtig sind die Promillegrenze und Alkolocks im Gespräch. Untersuchungen haben grosse Bevölkerungsmehrheiten für politisches Handeln ergeben. Wann handelt die Politik?
