A study that compared the drinking patterns of middle aged men in France to counterparts in Belfast in Northern Ireland, found that binge drinking was linked to nearly double the risk of heart disease, suggesting that Belfast’s binge drinking culture, where there is a tendency to drink a lot of alcohol in one day at the weekend, could be fuelling the city’s high rate of heart disease.
Although other studies have already established a link between drinking alcohol and heart disease and premature death, the researchers wanted to look in more detail at the role of drinking patterns and type of alcohol. Vielen Arbeitgebern fällt der richtige und geduldige Umgang mit dem Thema Alkohol am Arbeitsplatz schwer.
Schätzungen zufolge sind etwa fünf Prozent aller Arbeitnehmer alkoholkrank. Wobei die Anzahl der Arbeitnehmer mit einem Alkoholproblem deutlich höher liegen dürfte. Alkohol am Arbeitsplatz kann nicht nur dem Betriebsklima schaden; die betroffenen Arbeitnehmer weisen außerdem einen hohen Krankenstand auf, der die Unternehmen jährlich Milliarden von Euro kostet. Hinzu kommt der volkswirtschaftliche Schaden, den zum Beispiel Unfälle oder die mit dem Alkoholkonsum verbundenen Kosten der Krankenkassen, verursachen. Aber wie verhalten sich Vorgesetzte und Kollegen richtig, wenn sie den Verdacht hegen, ein Kollege könnte Alkohol am Arbeitsplatz konsumieren? Wer unter Flugangst leidet, lässt während einer Reise mit dem Flieger besser die Finger vom Alkohol und auch von Medikamenten. Laut „Flugangst-Studie 2009“ des Deutschen Flugangst-Zentrums in Düsseldorf. haben 43 % der Flugangstbetroffenen schon Medikamente gegen ihr Leiden genommen. A countywide Social Host Liability Ordinance was passed by the Board of Supervisors on June 15, 2010, and will go into effect on December 1, 2010.
The law makes it illegal for anyone hosting a party to knowingly allow minors to consume alcohol at that party. Violence against women is huge problem in European lives.
November 25th was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and we have read several
press releases from different civil society organization. Yesterday. Many organizations, not least the United
Nations, have tried over the years to raise awareness about the problem that violence against women creates
for societies. After all already in 1999 did the General Assembly of the UN designate the 25th of November to
be this special day.
“Also many of our members have used this day over the years to raise awareness,” says Andrea Lavesson, the
President of Active – sobriety, friendship and peace. “However, we have to be honest and face the fact that violence
against women doesn’t make it into the headlines. Individual cases might make it into tabloids but media
coverage of this paramount societal problem is non-existent.”
As a matter of fact, almost 25% of all women in Europe have experienced physical violence at least once during

More states and local communities are allowing sales of hard liquor and other alcohol on Sunday, USA Today reported Nov. 18.
In 2002, 22 states allowed Sunday liquor sales. Now, only 14 states and the District of Columbia do not allow Sunday liquor sales.
Some communities that permitted Sunday alcohol sales already, have changed starting hours for selling alcohol to earlier in the day. Michigan made it legal this month to sell alcohol as early as 7 a.m., while Arizona in July pushed legal starting hours from 10 a.m. to 6 a.m. (Source: Join Together, 11/23/10) our Online-Comment: The state gets some little tax money and the Public has more social costs to pay. The balance is negative in most cases. The profit is at the alcohol industry.

Früher, so Ute Fischer, hätte sie gesagt, dass die Hauptgründe für Gewalt an Frauen Alkohol und Armut sind. Inzwischen würde sie zumindest den zweiten Aspekt nicht mehr hervorheben. „Denn heute wissen wir, dass Gewalt an Frauen in allen Gesellschaftsschichten und Altersgruppen vorkommt“, so die Vorsitzende des Landesfrauenrates in Sachsen-Anhalt. Der Alkohol spiele dabei immer wieder eine Rolle.
Zum Internationalen Tag gegen Gewalt an Frauen veranstaltet der Landesfrauenrat eine Gedenkstunde im Landtag. Im Mittelpunkt steht die sexuelle Gewalt. Der SPD-Politiker möchte die Hilfsangebote verbessern. Besser wäre doch, dafür zu sorgen, dass weniger Gewalt auftreten würde. Eine wirksame Methode wäre Alkoholprävention, da Alkohol sehr häufig mit der sexuellen Gewalt im Zusammenhang steht. Die Politik müsste die globale Alkohol-Strategie der WHO umsetzen, damit der Alkoholkonsum und damit die -Schäden zurückgingen. Bis jetzt schützt sie immer noch die Interessen der Alkoholindustrie.
