Dass zu viel Alkohol am bevorstehenden Feiertag auch schlimme Folgen haben kann, darauf machen die Statistiker aufmerksam. Schwere Vorwürfe gegen zwei Gymnasiasten aus Lübeck: Sie sollen eine 15-jährige Realschülerin während der Klassenfahrt in London vergewaltigt und ihre Tat gefilmt haben. Die britische Polizei nahm die jungen Männer in Untersuchungshaft. Angeblich trafen sie das Mädchen auf einer Party – und gaben ihr Alkohol. Ihnen droht bis 10 Jahre Haft. The purpose of the conference is to promote and disseminate knowledge about current thinking on alcohol and alcohol policy matters; to build capacity and to promote networking and coalition building between and within the European countries. The main aim of the conference is to stimulate action in alcohol policy.
The conference is organized by Eurocare (European Alcohol Policy Alliance) under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium and it is co-financed by the European Commission and co-sponsored by the WHO (World Health Organization).
The conference location, in the heart of the European Union, will provide a unique opportunity to involve a wider audience and engage in dialogue with policy makers at the European level. (Source: Eurocare, Programme)

Alkoholprobleme sind auch im Alter eine Realität. Fachleute schätzen, dass ungefähr jede dritte alkoholabhängige ältere Person dies erst nach der Pensionierung wurde. Alkohol wirkt im Alter stärker. Zudem nehmen ältere Menschen oft mehr Medikamente ein. Sich informieren ist daher wichtig. Sucht Info Schweiz und die ZüFAM, Zürcher Fachstelle zur Prävention des Alkohol- und Medikamenten-Missbrauchs, orientieren Menschen ab 60 Jahren und Personen aus deren Umfeld über wenig bekannte Risiken. The budget crises afflicting many states has finally caused legislators in Washington State to realize their tax rates needed an overhaul. Included in the current budget is a beer tax increase that triples the tax rate on domestic brands (micro-brews are exempt). The new beer tax adds about 28 cents on a six-pack. We estimate this increase will raise about $55.6 million per year in new revenue, allowing the state to avoid painful cuts in services. It’s time for California and other states to follow suit and increase their alcohol tax rates to help save vital programs. Our nation’s media has been flooded with reports of the brutal killing of University of Virginia senior Yeardley Love by her classmate George Huguely, both college lacrosse players who had been “in a relationship” until she broke it off several weeks ago. The tragedy adds this beautiful 22 year old to the almost 2,000 college students who will die this year as a result of violence, accidents and poisoning related to excessive drinking.

Fotos einer zirrhotischen Leber nach etwa 2 bis 10 Jahren Alkoholmissbrauch. Bei diesen Fotos vergeht einem die Lust aufs Trinken… zumindest sollte sie das. Denn diese Bilder zeigen eindrucksvoll, wie jahrelanger Alkoholmißbrauch eine gesunde Leber in ein undefinierbares Etwas verwandelt, dass eher an zwei Kilo Hackfleisch erinnert, als an den wichtigsten Schadstoff-Filter unseres Körpers.
