USA: 2010 Partnership Attitude Tracking Study

The annual study shows that teen drug and alcohol use is headed in the wrong direction, with marked increases in teen use of marijuana and Ecstasy over the past three years. The study confirms a disturbing trend that has emerged among American

USA: Alcohol Awareness Is Not Just for Teens

Many of the efforts associated with Alcohol Awareness Month each April are targeted at preventing underage drinking, especially during the prom and graduation celebration season. But there are other groups that are also practicing harmful alcohol consumption but may not be aware of the risks.

USA: 11 businesses busted for selling alcohol to minors

Employees at 11 Plainfield businesses face $250 fines after police say they were witnessed selling alcohol to minors.
Officers conducted a compliance check on Wednesday of 39 Plainfield businesses licensed to sell alcohol, said Sgt. Kevin McQuaid. Two 18-year-olds were used in the blitz and were asked to present their own IDs when asked for them. (Source: Google Alcohol News, 04/02/11) triblocal.com, 04/01/11

Aldi Liquor License Opposed Due to Negative Alcohol Influence

The German supermarket giant Aldi, has applied for liquor licenses for its 102 stores across the New South Wales, including 9 stores in Illawarra. The Illawarra Local Aboriginal Land Council and New South Wales Health have made submission against the application for licenses by Aldi. They stated the high rate in the number of alcohol related crimes, accidents and their opposition to more alcohol licenses in the communities.
Sharralyn Robinson, CEO of the Illawarra Land Council has expressed that they are very much aware of the effects of alcohol in the community and they already had more than enough alcohol outlets. (Source: Google Alcohol News, 04/06/11) topnews.us, 04/06/11

Zambia: There is need to restrict alcohol

President Rupiah Banda says there is need for the country to find ways of restricting alcohol in public places. The President said this is because most of the crimes being committed are as a result of people spending long hours in drinking places.
He was speaking to Journalists shortly after he cast his vote at Mulungushi University in Kabwe on Wednesday.

CH: Interkantonale Studie zur Wirksamkeit der ambulanten Alkoholbehandlung

Jedes Jahr lassen sich in der Schweiz mehrere tausend Personen mit Alkoholproblemen erfolgreich bei einer ambulanten Suchthilfestelle beraten. Bisher fehlten aber wissenschaftlich fundierte Aussagen dazu. Aus diesem Grund führen Fachstellen der Kantone Aargau, Bern und Zürich erstmals eine interkantonale Katamnese-Studie durch, welche die Wirksamkeit der ambulanten Suchtbehandlung im Bereich Alkohol aufzeigen soll. Als externe Forschungsstelle führt das Institut für Sucht- und Gesundheitsforschung Zürich (ISGF) die Evaluationen durch und sichert den Anspruch der Wissenschaftlichkeit. Handelsbestimmungen bei Verkauf und Ausschank alkoholischer Getränke in Europa

Eine von der Eidg. Alkoholverwaltung (EAV) beim Schweizerischen Institut für Rechtsvergleichung (SIR) in Auftrag gegebene Untersuchung (pdf, 33S., 725Kb) vergleicht die Alkoholgesetzgebung der vier grössten Nachbarstaaten der Schweiz, des Vereinigten Königreich (England und Wales), einer skandinavischen Rechtsordnung (Norwegen) und eines mittelgrossen neuen EU-Mitgliedstaates (Tschechien). Das Gutachten soll im Rahmen der Totalrevision des Schweizer Alkoholgesetzes dazu dienen, die Schweizerische Alkoholgesetzgebung im internationalen Umfeld einzuordnen, verschiedene Regelungsmöglichkeiten aufzuzeigen und allfällige Auswirkungen von Rahmenbedingungen in der Schweiz abzuschätzen.
