Our knowledge of the association between alcohol intake and alcohol-related health outcomes depends, to a large extent, on the validity and reliability of self-reported alcohol intake. Weekly drinking measures are frequently used in epidemiological surveys, but it has been shown that respondents have problems in correctly reporting intake for a full week. The aim of this study is to investigate whether a beverage-specific question implies better recall and, thereby, eliminates or diminishes the previously reported association between the recall period and the self-reported weekly alcohol intake. Conclusions:
It seems problematic to recall alcohol intake even when the recall period is as short as 1 week. Weekly drinking measures should primarily be used when the main aim of the study is to assess the average volume of alcohol intake in a specific population. Noch wenige Tage, dann gehts los mit der Lozärner Fasnacht. Ein Anlass, der aber nicht nur für Freude sorgt, sondern vielen Eltern die Sorgenfalten ins Gesicht treibt: Sie befürchten, dass ihre Kinder während der Fasnachtszeit (übermässig) Alkohol konsumieren. Nach Vorliegen der Ergebnisse einer internen Arbeitsgruppe zum Thema Alkohol am Steuer fordert die Verkehrswacht ein grundsätzliches Alkoholverbot.
Der Deutschen Verkehrswacht e.V. liegt das Thema Alkohol am Steuer schon lange am Herzen, ihr Motto: „Wer fährt, trinkt nicht – wer trinkt, fährt nicht.“ Der Vorstand der Verkehrswacht hat eine Arbeitsgruppe gebildet, die über die Auswirkungen von Alkohol am Steuer diskutieren sollte, mit dem Zweck, eine einheitliche Postion des Verbandes zu diesem Thema zu ermöglichen. Die Ergebnisse der Arbeitsgruppe liegen nun vor, der Vorstand hat diese zur Grundlage eines Beschlusses vom 27. According to a Feb. 8 Wall Street Journal article outlining the evidence for „alcoholism genes,“ it is probably both. New Zealand’s first ever FebFast ends tomorrow, having raised thousands of dollars for youth charities and given participants a break from drinking alcohol. Nearly a thousand people have given up alcohol for all of February as part of the Drug Foundation’s FebFast fundraiser, and so far more than $75,000 has been raised.
Coordinator Catherine Milburn says people can continue to make donations via the FebFast website (www.febfast.org.nz) throughout March. „There’s still time to show your support.“
