The number of alcohol ads on television increased to a record 298,054 last year, according to a tally by Georgetown University's Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth. The count was 209,909 in 2001. Three out of four alcohol ads are for beer and ale, the study notes, while wine ads account for barely 5 percent of the total. |

Tuesday Commissioners will consider new regulations for businesses caught serving alcohol to minors. A first offense would result in an automatic thirty-day suspension of a store's liquor license. Current regulations allow commissioners to put a business on probation for a first offense. |

From next month beer bottles will start to carry a health warning in the latest move by the brewing industry to try to curb Britain's growing appetite for binge
drinking. Brewing giant Scottish & Newcastle, which makes Kronenbourg and
Foster's, is pioneering the move, placing a label calling for responsible drinking on bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale. Similar notices will appear on the rest of its portfolio of brands over the next few

normal, everyone does it, and that it’s a “rite of passage” for high
school and college students. However, the data tells us a different story.
Of the respondents in a survey from Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, 38.5% did not drink alcohol in the past year. While almost 40% of people do not drink alcohol, we all pay the financial and emotional costs for the harmful effects. |
