The consumption of drugs and alcohol by teenagers is not just about rebellion or emotional troubles. It’s about being one of the cool kids, according to a study led by researchers at the Universite de Montreal.
„Our study highlights a correlation between popularity and consumption,“ says Jean-Sébastien Fallu, lead researcher and professor at the Université de Montréal’s School of Psychoeducation. „The teenagers we studied were well-accepted, very sensitive to social codes, and understood the compromises that it takes to be popular.“ (Source: Medical News Today, 9/30/10)

Der Konsum von Wein, Bier oder Schnaps drei bis viermal pro Woche steigert das Risiko des Binge Drinking, vor allem bei jungen Männern, laut einer neuen Studie, veröffentlicht im Journal Addiction. Forscher der Université de Montréal und der University of Western Ontario analysierten die Trinkgewohnheiten der Kanadier und fanden, dass häufiger Alkoholkonsum zu Binge Drinking bei allen Geschlechtern und allen Altersgruppen führen kann. Sipping wine, beer or spirits three to four times per week increases the risk of binge drinking, particularly among young men, according to a new study published in the journal Addiction. Researchers from the Université de Montréal and the University of Western Ontario analyzed the drinking habits of Canadians and found that frequent alcohol consumption can lead to binge drinking among all gender and all age groups.
