According to a recent study carried out by the Spanish Consumers’ association, alcohol is easily accessible to underage drinkers in Spain. Although the minimum purchase legal age for alcohol is 18 in Spain (16 in Asturias), the study showed that in 75% of cases, underage drinkers were able to buy alcohol without any problems. An underage selling test was carried out in 123 premises in six of the main Spanish cities (Barcelona, Madrid, Granada, Bilbao, Valencia and Valladolid). The volunteers taking part in it were between 15 and 17 years old. (Source: Eurocare Newsletter March-April 2009)
