‚Floatopia‘ Defies Beach Alcohol Ban

Beachgoers in California have found a simple solution to a local ban on drinking alcohol on the beach: imbibing on floats a few feet from the shore. NBC News reported March 21 that more than 10,000 people were expected to attend a party called „Floatopia“ this weekend in Pacific Beach and elsewhere in San Diego, where alcohol was banned in 2008.
„You can consume alcohol on the water as long as your feet aren’t touching the sand. It’s challenging to police and to lifeguards, but we’re doing the best we can,“ said police Lt. James Filley. Extra lifeguards were added at some beaches. (Source: Join Together, 3/25/10) Comment: Lawmakers should always think on additional measures which would avoid such evasion. And also adjust the budget for enough controls.
