The Australian Medical Association says the government must call an urgent summit on alcohol advertising. AMA President, Dr Rosanna Capolingua, congratulated the distilling industry for its decision to voluntarily cease daytime television advertising, but said much more was needed. “We’ve got to break this link between sporting heroes and alcohol.” “The only acceptable outcome is that there should be no alcohol advertising at times when children are watching.” “If the alcohol industry won’t act – then government must.” (Source: Medical News Today, 4/5/09)
